This took place from the 14-16 March, Mon to Wed. Well the camp took off pretty tough and hard on the cadets. From what I see, they are very shocked to go thru such a "boot camp" where the expectations are so different from weekly trainings. Most will be surprised to have OC to pump the whole unit during Muster Parade on Monday morning. All including the Sec 4s went down and up, down and up doing push ups and recounting, recounting and recounting.
Sec 2s, many will find them a better lot. They are more submissive in nature, also do their best with rewards and strings attached to the task allocated. Indeed, I have seen them grow alot during this camp. The drills have somehow improved for basics, and hopefully they should be ready for their upcoming 3rd class drills test proper. Hope, there wont be anymore retests or whatsoever. From the squad, it can be seen almost everyone tries his best to perform the tasks, except for a few who needs to be finetuned and refined. I know who they are, but they wont know who they are. The camp was set a much higher level than their expected level due to the Sec 3s' presence. Keep going Sec 2s!!
With many references before the camp that the Sec 3s were a tough lot of people, it can be seen that after camp, the NCOs' views changed. Initially, I encountered a bad manner and attitude case of a sec 3, whereby I pumped him immediately due to such. For many others with similar characteristics, I did the same. The 1st day, I shouted more than ever at a group of people. Change parades, slow movements, sloppy movements, poor management and care for juniors etc, the list goes on about how bad they are. However, there are a considerable number of them who have lots of potential and I can see them holding key positions after Annual Parade. So, dont die out that flame of yours, Sec 3s, u can make a blaze of flames if you want!!
Well, as for me, I didnt appear much during the camp at the forefront. The teaching and skills were left to the NCOs to handle since its their camp. My main role was a harsh enforcer and disciplinarian in every aspect for the cadets. This can be seen during PT, punishments, mannerism, turn out, actions. Made a few weird punishments too. I went alil cranky after PT on Monday, started doing push ups and became hyperactive. Was a runner during the Nighthike, fire-feeder during campfire, enforcer during fire drill, sleeper during lessons. Being a CI sure allows me time to think, reflect and ponder about everything that is happening. I dont belong to the category of CI being at the forefront teaching campcraft but drills will be a better area. But I am someone who cares more of the character development, comment and feedback to NCOs, cannot settle with others' performance other than perfection. Guess that's how I should be defined then.
Ghost stories by Mr Lee after Campfire was really awesome. He went about telling us that the sch had areas with high spirit level and people with the extra sense or a third eye that will be able to sense it. Ghosts travel thru walls, do take note of that. The crests of ur schools, uniformed group contain spirit powers to defend you, believe it or not its up to you! And take note, areas of worship attract spirits when night falls.
Thank You all Officers, fellow CIs, NCOs and most imptly the cadets for making this UTC 05 a success. Hope what is brought back by everyone aint just those hard skills, but soft skills as well as development as a Josephian too!!
Went home to rest after camp. Dozed off in front of the com, woke up to realize that I was gonna be LATE to meet Zil. Met her at Far East, later met up with Thea at her workplace. Went to Far East, bought converse shoes. Hmmm, got this blue army high cut ones which I dont have at home. This made my 6th pair of shoes at home? Yup. Tried to hunt for clothes for my cousie's wedding day but didnt find much. Haha. Went to Cine to buy movie tix. Had dinner at Pasta, which was Zil's wkplace. Went to eat some kaya toasts at Kiliney, hmmm cant figure why it tasted quite bad tt day... Haha maybe it was so late already?? usually when I eat with my clsmates in the afternoon, it taste fine and great. Slacked at the usual Purple Light Arena behind Winsland House, that place is really cool, quiet, serene and great to hang out after a day of activities. Though it might be abit small, but it feels wonderful just being there in that dim lit place. Went to watch Son of the Mask, haha wrong choice, not a very good show to watch coz it does not developt well and the storyline is too far fetched. So reconsider ur choice abt this show if u are gonna watch... Haha ^^
Went for Orientation 2 Facilitators' Training at CJ. Had to leave awhile for maths lessons. To my horror, I only got O for Maths, gonna get screwed hard during PTM.... DIE... Haha heck it la. Played a few games which were quite fun actually for some. Needed loads and loads of teamwork and communication ya. My House, Ilden!! Haha, our colour is pink, thus we came out with many items, equipment and accessories to fit us like Pink Panther, Cupid and more!! Gonna get a hot pink T Shirt. Gonna be quite stressed since Nicholas and I are the House Masters, and I am a Noob at leading a house, help!! Hahahahax. Met up with Thea in the evening. Hmmm, quite a last minute arrangement to meet up. Went to hunt for my cousie's wedding clothes. Thea's got much more exp with clothes and stuff since she's working in an apparel store. Browsed Guess, Zara, U2, G2000, Topman. Most were either too mature, too immature or just too costly. Settled with a jacket at U2. 1st time tt I m gonna wear a jacket, wonder how would I look like on the actual day! Hahaha. Had dinner at Long John at far east, went to shop for clothes at POA, offer going on. Visited Zil and Van at Cine Pasta while they were working. Had some desserts at Maestro Bistro, it was quite okay, but nothing very special actually. Still prefer the desserts at Raffles' Hotel, which has fabulous Cheesy Cakes!!
Today's facil trg, went to Sentosa for Amazing Race. Walked here and there, built sand castles, waded thru the water, soaked in the sea, blindfold walk and stuff. Had a fun and tiring day with the other facils. Talked alot abt DOTA along the way, to see that almost the whole cohort of guys have exp DOTA. Cool!! =)
